Introduction

BT5, Battle of Omni, is nearly here! If you are new to the game or don't really follow the game in japan until they get to EN, you may not have a good idea of what is in this set. What should I play? What will be good? What's worth investing in? In Japan, the two decks that consistently topped tournaments were LordKnightmon, and Shoutmon DX. We will cover Lordknightmon later, but if you are newer to the game and don't have a lot of cards or don't want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on one deck, Shoutmon DX may be the deck for you.

What is Shoutmon DX?

Shoutmon DX is a deck based around a new game mechanic "Blitz," but you may see it referred to as "Advance." When you digivolve into a Digimon with this ability, you can still declare an attack with that Digimon only if the memory gauge goes past zero and it should be your opponent's turn. Alone this may not seem like a lot, but with the Shoutmon line, this mechanic can be very fast, and game-winning if your opponent can't keep up.

The first card we will talk about is Level 3 Shoutmon, For a play cost of 3 and a hard play effect, letting you look at the top 5 cards of your deck, and adding 1 card with “Blitz” and 1 Digimon with “Shoutmon” in its name. At the moment there are only 3 cards with the Blitz ability, and 3 Shoutmon (in BT5.) But this card is very nice for consistency, and even going 2nd potentially being able to go plus 1 with this card is very nice. It also has an inheritable effect that gives the Digimon on top of it an additional 2000 DP, a massive boost for a level 3. This effect is important to us since we are focusing on the Shoutmon line and this boost can help protect our main Digimon from our opponent's Digimon's attacks.

From Shoutmon we go to OmniShoutmon, a level 5. That’s right, Shoutmon does not have any level 4’s in its archetype. Granted you will most likely be playing some level 4 Digimon, but OmniShout can actually warp digivolve from any Shoutmon you have in play, just make sure it’s not in the raising area. You’re bound to have a game where you just aren’t seeing any of your level 4’s so this effect does come in handy. What makes OmniShout a very strong card is its inheritable effect, giving any Digimon with Blitz on top of its security attack plus 1. All your level 6’s have Blitz, and if you play something such as Starter Deck Greymon, you can really do some damage.

Zekegreymon is a level 6, with Blitz. Combined with Shoutmon and OmniShoutmon it can be a 13000 DP beat stick. Not much to talk about until you see it's a level 6, with an inheritable effect. Its inheritable effect lets a Digimon with Blitz attack your opponent’s UNSUSPENDED Digimon, combined with Shoutmon’s inheritable effect this can be a threat for your opponent. But all 3 of these cards pale in comparison to Shoutmon DX.

Shoutmon DX is also a level 6, but what may jump out to you is that it can digivolve off of a level 5, or another level 6. This helps its second effect a lot because in addition to Blitz, when you digivolve into it, you can place any red digimon under it. Then for each [OmniShoutmon] or [ZekeGreymon] in its sources, you can delete 1 of your opponent's Digimon with 5000 DP or less.

Being able to digivolve on another level 6, then place a digimon underneath it can potentially delete 3 digimon. And 5000 may not seem like a lot, but that’s how much the new blockers are, and being able to delete a blocker is always nice. Another great thing about it’s effect is it can be any red digimon. Red is full of effects that give you an additional security attack, or boost you DP so being able to boost it even more makes it very strong.
